A guide to a healthy mouth and oral cavity

A guide to a healthy mouth and oral cavity

All Healthy Mouths are Alike, Each Unhealthy Mouth Is Unhealthy In Its Own Way

Majid Ali, M.D.

Observing one’s oral cavity, in my experience is a direct, simple, and convenient way of assessing health. While it is easy to get lost in the descriptions of “mouth conditions” listed in medical textbooks (and now on the internet), the healing approach to nearly all of them is simple and straight forward. To underscore this crucial point, I offer some thought on wise physicians and smart doctors before discussing individual tongue conditions listed above and simple, holisic, nondrug therapies to address them.

Knowing the Mouth—In a Friendly Sort of Way

What is the main difference between wise physicians and smart doctors? Who are wise physicians? Who are smart doctors? Here is a hint: Wise physicians are respectful of the tongue and the bowel, smart doctors are not. Why do you think this is so? I did clinical work in hospitals in three countries from 1961 to 1996. Conservatively speaking, I attended five conferences a week, which comes to an astounding 7,400 conferences. I do not recall a single lecturer who focused on the tongue to assess the health of the bowel. I relate this to underscore the central point of this tutorial: the tongue informs well on the state of bowel ecology.

Oral Dryness

The state of moisturization of the tongue offers a good assessment of the state of dehydration. However, this is a crude test. A far superior method is “Dr. Ali’s Hydration Test” posted on this site.

Tongue Coating

Medical textbooks tell us that the cause of tongue coating is unknown. There are vague references to bacterial, viral, yeast, and parasitic factors, as well as inflammatory lesions of the tongue.

What have my patients taught me about tongue coating? It develops as a consequence of altered states of bowel ecology, especially the issues of gut fermentation, excess mycotoxin production, leaky gut state—all caused by sugar and antibiotics abuse, undiagnosed and untreated mold allergy, food allergy and intolerance, parasitic infestations, and problems of indigestion and absorption. Treatment:

(1) Dr. Ali’s Oral Hygiene protocol;

(2) detect and address all of the relevant factors. I discuss these subjects at length in my two-DVD video seminar entitled “Bowel” (see below)

Glossitis

Medical textbooks recognize deficiencies of vitamin B12 and some other B-complex members. Beyond that they say the cause of glossitis is unknown. There are vague references to bacterial, viral, yeast, and parasitic factors, as well as inflammatory lesions of the tongue.

What have my patients taught me about glossitis of various types? Indeed, in my clinical work, vitamin deficiencies played a role in a very small number of cases of tongue diseases. Much more commonly, they develop as consequences of altered states of bowel ecology, especially the issues of gut fermentation, excess mycotoxin production, leaky gut state—all caused by sugar and antibiotics abuse, undiagnosed and untreated mold allergy, food allergy and intolerance, parasitic infestations, and problems of indigestion and absorption. Treatment:

(1) Dr. Ali’s Oral Hygiene Protocol

(2) detect and address all of the relevant factors. I discuss these subjects at length in my two-DVD video seminar entitled “Bowel” (see below)

Oral Canker Sores

Medical textbooks tell us that the cause of oral canker sores is unknown. There are vague references to bacterial, viral, yeast, and parasitic factors, as well as inflammatory lesions of the tongue.

(2) detect and address all of the relevant factors. I discuss these subjects at length in my two-DVD video seminar entitled “Bowel” (see below).

Oral Thrush

Oral thrush in common vernacular stands for fungal (yeast) overgrowth in the oral cavity that is often most pronounced on the tongue. The involved areas are pale white in color and rough in texture. Oral thrush invariably is a manifestation of yeast overgrowth in the bowel and associated gut fermentation.

Oral Blisters

Oral blisters are usually caused by viral infections. In ulcerated forms, they look angry, red, and painful.

Oral Leukoplakia

Leukoplakia of the mouth is a chronic condition characterized by the formation of discrete areas of thickening and white discoloration. The microscopic abnormalities
worsen with time when untreated and eventually lead to the development of cancer.

Medical textbooks tell us that the cause of leukoplakia is unknown. There are vague references to bacterial, viral, yeast, and parasitic factors, as well as inflammatory lesions of the tongue.

What have my patients taught me about leukoplakia? It develops as a consequence of altered states of bowel ecology, especially the issues of gut fermentation, excess mycotoxin production, leaky gut state—all caused by sugar and antibiotics abuse, undiagnosed and untreated mold allergy, food allergy and intolerance, parasitic infestations, and problems of indigestion and absorption. I discuss these subjects at length in my two-DVD video seminar entitled “Bowel” (see below)

Loss of Taste

The tongue is the principle organ of taste, swallowing, and speech. It assists jaws in chewing food. It has a rich supply of nerves and blood vessels, and so is highly sensitive. In humans a secondary function of the tongue is phonetic articulation. The tongue also cleanses the teeth. It is a common mistake to think that it perceives different tastes in different parts of the tongue

Loss of taste is a disturbing symptom, which in my experience nearly always developed as a consequence of chronic inflammation in the oral cavity, which itself was the consequence of disrupted bowel ecology. Difficulties of swallowing and speech involving the tongue are generally caused by neurological disorders and the diagnosis is easily made.

White Strawberry Tongue (also called Raspberry Tongue)

These terms are used for a red, uncoated tongue, with elevated papillae. Originally, they were used as diagnostic criteria for scarlet fever. It is not clear how much one can rely on such appearances of tongue to make that diagnosis.

In this 35-minute part 1 of his Crohns Colitis Seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. discusses the causes, signs and symptoms, pathology, clinical course, and consequences of colon diverticulosis and diverticulosis. He focuses on the issues of stress, unhealthy foods, colon fermentation, and bacterial infections.

Colon Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis Seminar Two
In this 35-minute part 2 of his Crohns Colitis Seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. continues with his discussion of his evolutionary perspective of colon diverticulosis and diverticulosis. He focuses on the issues of stress, unhealthy foods, colon fermentation, and bacterial infections. He describes nondrug management plans for prevention of attacks of diverticulitis.

Constipation
In this 40-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. discusses the causes, clinical features, and natural remedies for constipation. He presents his holistic, integrative, and ecologic view of the physiology and pathology of the alimentary tract and the bowel transit time. His recommended natural remedies are simple and low-cost. He offers other video seminars giving detailed information on the subjects covered.

Crohns Colitis Seminar One
In this 35-minute Seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. discusses the causes, signs and symptoms, clinical course, and consequences of Crohns Colitis. He focuses on the issues of mold and food allergy, inflammatory factors, environmental pollutants that cause chronic inflammation in various segments of the alimentary tract, as well as organs, such as skin, eyes, and joints.

Crohns Colitis Seminar Two
In this 35-minute part 2 of his Crohns Colitis Seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. continues his discussion of pathology of Crohns Colitis. He describes his integrative plan for addressing issues of mold allergy, food allergy, inflammation, leaky gut state, and abnormal immune responses for healing the bowel and preventing recurrences.

H. Pylori
In this 40-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. describes and explains serious errors of the so-called H. Pylori infections and ulcers. He informs that H. Pylori microbe is part of the normal stomach flora and its presence must not be accepted as an indication of antibiotic therapy. Indeed, children without this microbe as a part of the stomach flora have much incidence of asthma, eczema, and other immune disorders than children who do have this microbe. Prof. Describes his unifying Oxygen Model of Gastritis and GERD and looks at the disease in a broad evolutionary perspective. This model is the basis of his rational and scientifically sound plan to control and reverse lupus with simple, safe, and effective natural therapies.

Spastic Colon
In this 40-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. describes signs and symptoms of spastic colon and irritable bowel syndrome. He explains how neglected food allergy and mold allergy, and the problems caused by sugar and antibiotic abuse disrupt colon ecology and irritate the bowel. The irritated bowel literally becomes “spastic.”  He cautions against the use of drugs without addressing these factors. Then explains his guidelines of controlling gut fermentation and leaky gut state, and for restoring the bowel health.

Stomach Fermentation, Gastritis, GERD, and Gastric Ulcer Seminar
In this 40-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali explains how fermentation occurs in the stomach and sets the stage for the development of gastritis, GERD, and stomach ulcers. Chronic inflammatory and immune disorders involving the colon, small intestine, stomach, esophagus, and the oral cavity are the consequences of fermentation.

Ulcerative Colitis Seminar One
Professor Majid Ali, M.D. discusses the causes, signs and symptoms, pathology, clinical course, and consequences of ulcerative colitis. He presents his evolutionary, microscopic, and clinical perspective on this chronic inflammatory disorders. He focuses on the issues of mold and food allergy, gut fermentation, stress, unhealthy foods, colon fermentation, stomach fermentation, and bacterial infections. In Part Two of this seminar, he describes his nondrug treatment approaches to effectively address all aspects of ulcerative colititis.

Ulcerative Colitis Seminar Two
In this 35-minute part 2 of his Crohns Colitis Seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. discusses the causes, signs and symptoms, pathology, clinical course, and consequences of ulcerative colitis.

Healing Seminar 9 – Oxygen Model of Health and Disease
Professor Majid Ali presents his Oxygen Mode of Health and Disease and Oxygen Model of  Disease. He speaks about his journey of a surgeon-turned-pathologist-turned-immunologist-turned-nutritionist-turned-ecologist-turned-“energy physician.” His unifying oxygen models are based on his evolutionary perspective of health, disease, and healing.
●
Healing Seminar 10 – Acid-Alkali Balance
Professor Majid Ali explains the importance of acid-alkali balance in health preservation and the reversal of chronic disease. In his evolutionary perspective, he recognizes oxygen as the ultimate regulator of this balance. He cautions against too much reliance on the values of pH (acidity indicator) in blood, urine, and saliva samples, since these samples reflect the body’s responses to threats to the balance.
● Healing Seminar 11 – Oxidant – Antioxidant Regulation
Professor Majid Ali presents the scientific facts of oxidant-antioxidant regulation, beginning with definitions of terms and simple explanation of natural processes called oxidation (loss of electron energy) and reduction (gain of electron energy) with simple analogies. Next he shows how oxygen regulates oxidant-oxidates reactions and why oxidant therapies are more important than antioxidant therapies.
● Healing Literacy
In this 50-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. presents the anatomy, physiology, and an evolutionary view of the pathology of cell membranes. Specifically, he focuses on the structures and functions of cell membrane receptor proteins, hormone receptors, and cell communication molecules. He then presents his “The grease and Detergent Model of Health and Disease.
● Endo Literacy Seminar Part 2
In this video seminar, Professor Majid Ali focuses on the crucial importance of understanding the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of endo cells (short for endothelium cells) that line the interior of vascular and lymmphatic channels in the body. He explains how no chronic disease can be understood or treated with natural therapies without a clear understanding endos.
● Cell Membrane Literacy – Course on Healing Intermediate Part 3
In this 50-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. presents the anatomy, physiology, and an evolutionary view of the pathology of cell membranes. Specifically, he focuses on the structures and functions of cell membrane receptor proteins, hormone receptors, and cell communication molecules. He then presents his “The grease and Detergent Model of Health and Disease.
● Matrix Literacy Part 4
In this 30-minute video seminar, Professor Majid Ali, M.D. informs us that in 1958 in medical school, he was taught to consider the matrix as the “cement” that holds the “bricks” of cells. He explains why he considers this analogy misleading. In reality, the matrix regulates most cellular functions. In his “Oxygen’s 3 M Model of Health and Disease, M1 refers to mito (mitochondria), the second M to membrane of cells, and the third M to the matrix. At the structural level, this models offers the foundational knowledge of cellular health and disease
