In acute medical situations, blood thinners (Coumadin, Pradaxa, Xarelto, and Eliquis) can be life-saving. In chronic illnesses, spices as blood cleansers are far more preferable.

When does an acute illness become chronic so that spices can be used as good alternatives. This is not a simple decision and requires a careful review of all available information concerning a specific individual not only by an experienced integrative physician but also by the individual taking the drugs or spices.

Below is some texts from The New York Times that show the importance of considering this subject carefully:

* Pradaxa, a blood thinner and blockbuster drug, is linked to 500+ deaths. Now some say approval was hasty (NYT Fri Nov 02)

* Pradaxa has become a blockbuster drug in its two years on the market, bringing in more than $1 billion in sales for its maker, the privately held German drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim.

* Pradaxa is an example, some critics say, of what can happen when a drug that performs well in tightly controlled trials is released into the messy world of real-life medicine

* But almost as soon as doctors started prescribing Pradaxa, concerns surfaced about its safety. Pradaxa was identified as the primary suspect in 542 patient deaths reported to the F.D.A. in 2011, and was linked to more reports of injury or death than any of the more than 800 drugs regularly monitored by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, a nonprofit based in Pennsylvania that monitors medicine safety.

Blood pressure is the sideways pressure of blood against the inside wall of a blood vessel. Blood pressure is created by the force of the heart pumping blood into the arteries. Blood pressure depends on the amount of blood being pumped, and the flexibility of the artery walls.

Arteries expand for each heart beat. They relax between beats. If the arteries did not expand and relax, we could have too much pressure the moment that the heart beats, and too little pressure between the beats. Too much pressure would cause a stroke, and too little pressure would make a person lose consciousness. A blood pressure reading of 110/70 shows the two different pressures. The higher number 110 is the systolic blood pressure (when the heart beats). The lower number, 70, is the diastolic pressure, when the heart relaxes. Normal blood pressure for an adult at ease is 110/70 or 120/80.

Arteries have an intelligence of their own. They are sensitive to messages from the rest of the body. When a patient goes to see a doctor, sometimes there is the “white-coat effect.” That is, the patient’s blood pressure at home may be 120/70, but it’s 170/90 at the doctor’s office. The anxiety of being in the doctor’s office can make the patient’s arteries tighten. Then the blood pressure registers higher than normal. Usually, when doctors record a blood pressure of 145/90, or more, they will prescribe a drug to reduce blood pressure. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is indeed a serious condition. The extra pressure causes wear and tear on the heart and arteries. Aneurysms can form in thinning arteries. When an aneurism bursts, there can be a stroke or heart attack or death. A doctor has to medicate a patient at the level that he records for a patient in his office. Usually, the medication the prescription, or additional blood pressure drugs, are for a lifetime. In my experience, my patients who have taken the time to learn the reasons for high blood pressure, and learned natural ways of normalizing blood pressure eventually were able to reduce and then stop needing drugs to control their blood pressure. No one should stop taking their blood pressure medications without a deep understanding and long practice with natural non-drug therapies. Only when their doctor says it’s time to reduce the drug, should a person do that.

Causes of High Blood Pressure

Pressure in a balloon is the pressure of air pumped into it. Similarly pressure in a car tire is the pressure of the air on the wall of the tire. Blood pressure is the pressure of blood on the wall of arteries. High blood pressure is the condition in which blood pressure is raised because the arterial wall is tight or thickened or the volume of blood in the artery is increased. It is important to lower blood pressure when it is high to prevent serious conditions and an early death.

The most important step in normalizing the blood pressure is understanding how your body works. When you understand, you will want to do as many right things for your health as you can.

Blood pressure can be lowered with drugs. However, drugs do not cure high blood pressure. Blood pressure can be normalized by the body itself, under careful supervision. Then there is no need for life-long drugs with their side effects and expense.

Causes of High Blood Pressure

1. Loss of nutritional value in the food grown on modern factory farms

2. Toxins (pesticides, etc.) in the food we eat

3. Toxins in our water, air, and in the environment, smoking, drugs

4. Toxins we create in our own bodies from stress, anger, anxiety, lack of forgiveness, and misery

The state of our health begins in the bowel. In a healthy bowel, the yeasts (molds) and bacteria are in balance. When yeast cells take over the bowel, they produce acids that are powerful micro toxins. The blood picks up nutrients from the bowel. It picks up acids and toxins from it too.

The liver’s job is to filter the blood. When the load of toxins is too great, the liver cannot do its job. Then toxic blood circulates through all the organs of our body. Healthy red blood cells usually do not stick together. Red blood cells are very sensitive to toxins, acidity and free radicals. Their cell membranes get “sticky.” They tend to clot more frequently.

Our blood vessels are also very sensitive. Acid, free radicals and mini clots of the red blood cells irritate them. This irritation causes the blood vessels to spasm and tighten. That raises the blood pressure. To normalize blood pressure, we need to reduce the acidity, the free radical activity, and the stickiness of the blood cells.

I have written of some helpful practices in earlier articles.

Overhydrate your body in the morning with water and herbal teas. Breathe deeply and slowly for relaxation.

Do gentle non-competitive exercise. Move all your muscles. Choose foods wisely.

Foods rich in potassium, magnesium, and zinc are helpful. Avoid sugary foods, sweet fruits, breads, and red meat.

Add spices such as turmeric powder, ginger, garlic, onions and anti-fungal herbs.

Consider Dr. Ali’s breakfast four or five times a week. We suggest hydrogen peroxide foot soaks daily plus vitamin and mineral supplements.

  • The difference between my systolic and diastolic blood pressure is often 50 or 60 points, rather than the more normal 40 point spread. Is this a problem? Because I was diagnosed with CHF in 2011 (seemingly the result of a virus that weakened my heart) I’m still taking drugs: carvedilol, irbesartan and amiodarone. I’m 68. My ejection fraction was around 117 when hospitalized and now is about 48.

  • Carol, Please read Dr. Ali’s book “Oxygen and Aging”, which explains how a loss of balance in the electron biochemistry– a loss of “oxygen homeostasis” is what caused your susceptibility to the virus which weakened your heart. Only by a return to oxygen homeostasis can you balance the situation. I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Dr. Ali saved my heart when I was about to be declared only a heart transplant candidate, by teaching me to take a high dose of Co Q10 (co enzyme Q10) every two hours seven times a day. Dr. Ali explained to me that the Co Q10 raises the oxygen metabolism in the heart muscle by helping the heart create energy in the main way it metabolizes oxygen in the by creating ATP. If you read the studies on the NIH website, you will realize that the ejection fraction is low due to a weakened and possible scarred muscle. The animal studies show how the elements which create oxygen homeostasis can actually resolve fibrosis and scarring of the muscle. If you can manage even one visit to Dr. Ali in New York, please do so, then you can continue to consult with him by telephone. Dr. Ali himself survived a similar viral attack on his heart and nearly died, but using his own therapies restored his heart to a normal function today, so he would be able to advise you. In my opinion he is also the most expert person in the world on the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome, I had a rather severe case of it, and was able to cure myself by reading his book “The Canary and Chronic Fatigue.” This book will make you understand how the loss of oxygen homeostasis set you up for the viral attack, and then hw the viral attack pulled your oxygen homeostasis down further, leading to the chronic fatigue syndrome. Dr. Ali will show you how the viruses are not “the cause, but instead are the opportunistic infections which occur when the body is already losing oxygen homeostasis.

There are many other things Dr. Ali can give you to restore your heart muscle, including taurine and carnitine, a spectrum of minerals which are important to all of the body’s enzymatic functions, and a full complement of antioxidants, including co enzyme q10, vitamin C, full spectrum vitamin E, lipoic acid, glutathione, and pyncnogenol or similar antioxidants, which are capable of blocking free radical stress in all tissues of the body, and are capable of blocking all types of free radicals. The antioxidants work as a team, and need to be a complete team. But all of these things need a solid base program of work on the gut and liver which will avoid the generation of excess free radicals and help restore the cell membranes to health, which help return the body to oxygen homeostasis. The condition of the cell membranes is particularly important to the whole system and especially the heart, I also suggest you look up Dr. Ali’s recent post on the “grease” model of disease and look at the drawing of what happens to the cell membranes. The cell’s metabolic activities are impeded when the membranes–bot cell and mitochondrial membranes clog up as he shows in that drawing. The toxins which interfere with the metabolic processes can’t get out, and the oxygen and metabolites which oxygen needs to complete the ATP process can’t get in. His LEMP protocol–helps work on dissolving the gunk, as does his diet for those who are insulin resistant or diabetic. He shows you why eggs are “pills” which help resolve these problems because they contain egg yolk lecithin which helps dissolve the gunk. He can help you with hormone balancing therapies which will help create oxygen homeostasis. Dr. Ali shows you how the name of the game is creating “oxygen homeostasis”, and what elements play a role He can help you learn to as he says– “work as a “gardener” rather than as a “mechanic” to create a healthy biochemical terrain in your body which is hostile to the growth of viruses and cancers. For me he also prescribed taking small amounts of oxygen frequently to boost the oxygen metabolism in the heart muscle. My program with Dr. Ali has literally worked miracles for a heart which was so damaged that the first four cardiologists thought there was nothing that could be done which would save it. I am now well on the road to recovery. I have a friend with dilative cardiomyopathy who has also had excellent results working this way. If there is now way for you to see Dr. Ali then carefully review his materials as I have mentioned, and try to find a qualified physician near you who can guide you. Unfortunately there are very few of them. There is no substitute for educating yourself, as well, and there Dr. Ali can provide your “university”. reading the books I mentioned did this for me. They are not easy to read, but they will save your life. Be patient, he is not repeating himself in the books but is carefully faceting ideas and is winding you up a spiral staircase–built dsort of like the double helix of DNA. The view form the top of it is awesome. Good luck!
