Diabetes-Literate, Healing-Illiterate Part 7
American Diabetic Association Considers Diabetes Irreversible
Majid Ali, M.D.
Here is what it means to be “diabetes-literate”, according to the American Diabetic Association (ADA): In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. When you eat food, the body breaks down all of the sugars and starches into glucose, which is the basic fuel for the cells in the body. Insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can lead to diabetes complications.” No where on its web site does ADA say anything about reversing diabetes. Simply stated, ADA claims that diabetes Type 2 is irreversible.
Here is what it means to be “diabetes-literate. In 2001, I published my Oxygen Model of Diabetes. This model establishes that insulin receptor dysfunction resulting from toxicities of foods, environments, and thoughts to be the real cause of diabetes. This model rejects the prevailing dogma that diabetes results from inadequate insulin. Indeed, insulin levels are high during the first ten to twenty years of prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes. My model predicted that diabetes will develop if insulin receptors are destroyed in an experimental animal. In 2010, this prediction came true when scientists did exactly that in mice (see my article entitled “Evidence for the The Oxygen Model of Diabetes.”) My Oxygen Model of Diabetes Type 2 explains how the disease can be reversed by detecting and effectively addressing all relevant oxygen issues in the first two to ten years or so of diagnosis in most cases.
Models in science are proposed to: (1) offer workable simplicity to reduce complexities of natural phenomena; (2) to explain such phenomena; (3) to predict natural phenomena hitherto unrecognized. These models are tested, validated, or refuted with ongoing scientific observation. In clinical medicine, I add a fourth criterion for a model’s validity: it must facilitate health and healing.
My Oxygen Models of Diabetes, as well as my Oxygen Models of Insulin Toxicity , are based on my “Oxygen Eureka Moment”. I discuss these subjects at length in Darwin, Dysox, and Disease Triology (2008), the 10th, 11th, and 12th volumes of my text book entitled The principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine.
